We get the message, ok?
I've even bookmarked the link myself.
And leave out the references to CW "suits" will you?
Folks here are tired of your insistence. Don't make us invoke electronic means to cut off your access here.
Play nice.

I wish ths BBS well. It will suit some people I have no doubt. Probably Fred should lay off.

I think you should know, however, that many of us prefer buying boats from small companies or individuals and we work for small companies. Customer service for us is a very important virtue. I mean REAL customer service. I suspect that the reference to "suits" by Fred is to a corporate attitude that pays only lip service to customer service. I have no quarrel with the people who actually do the work of large companies. However, when a tech support person is responsible for 36 BBSs and there are hundreds of thousands of users, it is easy to forget the concerns of individuals. After all, a single BBS is barely even a line item in the larger scheme of things. That BBS is just part of a larger cost center to be endured.

I can understand why Fred would feel bitter about interference with a way of communication with other people which is satisfying to him. I know you asked Fred nicely. Use your censorship powers wisely if you want lively discussion. I for one contribute to communities I feel welcome in.

You never censored some of the worst flame wars and political rants I've ever seen. Tiresome Fred refers to corporate CW as cheap suits and you get your panties in twist. Back off, Bubba, the cheap suits have screwed up enough.

Why should CW spend the time and energy constantly moderating a message board? I host a couple of message boards myself, and I can tell you that if I had to waste time out of my busy work day looking for political posts and flame wars, I'd nuke the board completely. Message boards like CW's are done as a good will service to it's participants. When it becomes a liability, that's when it's time to let it go, and that's what CW did.

It's the you-owe-me attitude of guys like you that are responsible for the demise of the od CW board, and I really can't blame the CW staff a bit for their reponse. Insisting that something be done about the "hi its me" posts, and done immediately, was bullshit.

Insulting the staff at CW, like you and Fred have done, make you look small and petty. If you don't like it here, leave.

Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

Actually, we need to consider Fred for a psych case report.

Apparently, he was a regular poster on the CW board who didn't like the change. He may have actually complained under his own name.

The idea of registering an assumed name on a board that you DON'T want to visit and then visiting it to make a response to every post is just a leeetle bit strange.

It's the same sort behavior as YDC stalking JAX and responding to every single post he makes.

It's funny in it's own way but, you have to consider some poor sucker sitting at his computer getting an ulcer over trivia.

--filling the replies with useless comments

Case in point.

Fred, no one has anything against CSBB. I'm very sorry you have a slow computer and a slow connection. For me and many folks like me who are comfortable with the technology, this format offers a much better alternative.

A 'threaded bbs' (using the term loosely) is great if all you're going to do is gab. However, if you would like to use a board as a source of well organized information (I do), then a 'threaded bbs' such as CSBB is useless.

I'm sorry, too, that you feel restricted in some way by being 'forced' to register. Frankly, knowing that it's difficult to just pop in under any name you choose makes me feel better about the credibility of the information.

CSBB will continue (as it should). This BBS will also continue and, I feel, will most likely experience considerable growth. Contrary to what you may think, the phpbb format is very common and highly preferred in the computing community (and like it or not, you are in the computing community). I would be willing to bet that the previous bbs actually kept quite a few people away.

no hard feelings Fred. Just please stop with the inane plugs.

As for Marc, you've got a lot of nerve 'Bubba'. Do you even subscribe to CW? I'm not ashamed to say I don't. I love the magazine and I do read it, but after filling up two bookshelves and many garbage cans full of old magazines, I had to draw the line somewhere. With that said, I appreciate a resource such as this. As Dave-Gibson said, CW could simply pull the plug and be done with it. It wouldn't affect them in the least.

What really cracks me up is this whole reference to 'The Suits'. I guarantee no 'Suits' had anything to do with choosing phpbb. When was the last time you saw an IT nerd wearing a suit?

Re: 'Message boards like CW's are done as a good will service to it's participants'...?????

If that statement were true, we would not be having this discussion because the clear majority of CWBB posters did not want a change of format. The excuse of having to change to its present un-threaded format because their was no other choice is a 'they have WMD untruth'.

And Jeremy, I just can't believe you wear a suit to work! In any case my reference was not aimed at the CW sailing fraternity.

As for the usefulness of this un-threaded format style, you, Dave, should admit that without scrolling through ever topic's post, there is no way to tell where it is going or if the replys are even on topic.....a great waste of time.

I do think you loyalty to CW is commendable(though displaced) in the light of their disloyality to the old board's participants.
