The Nanaimo Port Authority are planing to bar boats without insurance from anchoring in Nanaimo Harbour ,and limit the amount of time any one boat can anchor there , to two weeks. This is a violation of the Canadian charter of rights, section 6 , guaranteeing the right of all Canadians to move freely anywhere in Canada , and to persue a livlihood anywhere in Canada. It allows private insurance companies to diictate who may or may not enjoy our public waterways, or who may or may not enjoy the mobility rights in our constitution. If it is allowed to go unchallenged, it will be the thin edge of a wedge, and will spread to many popular anchorages all over the BC coast. They are asking for input . Lets give them lots. Their phone number is 250-753-4146. Their fax number is 250-753-4899. If you use a prepaid phone card, they have no idea where you are calling from. Ask any boating friends and family members to call them several times a day. Phone calls are pennies these days.
If you make several copies of a fax, tape them together , then tape the ends together to make a continuous loop, and send it friday nite, it will keep sending it until the fax machine on the receiving end runs out of paper. This works on week nights too.
Then the message will be much clearer.
