We are heading to St. Maarten for the sailing season. Is one able to buy some antidote to ciguatera in St. Maarten?

To the best of my knowledge there isnt any antidote to ciguatera! However, you can buy a Ciguetera Test Kit which is applied to the raw fish prior to cooking - dunno how it works....maybe something like a pregnancy test??? Anyway, you'd have to google it as I dont know the supplier, but did hear it was pretty expensive.

If you are buying fish - I wouldnt worry so much - you'd have to be fairly unlucky to get a bad one. If you are catching yourself, the larger pelagic game fish are safe, its the smaller reef-eaters who carry it (or of course, the larger barracuda who have eaten the "reef-eaters"!) Tony

How do you get the fish to hold still & pee on the little stick ??
