Sailing Art????

Can somebody help me with a question about a piece of art I have? It is a large brass type wall hanging sailboat about 42" tall. The hull is black with a red stripe, large brass main sail and jib, and a tiller. It is signed by the artist 'gere 1987.'
It is a beautiful piece of art but I know nothing about it or the artist. Any info apprecitated.
