I'm looking for information about 32' Dreadnought, built by Dreadnought Boat Works. Similiar to a Westsail 32, it's supposedly a W. Creaklock design of an old 30' Tahiti design. Anyone know about this boat? Specs? Sailing qualities, or lack of? Worth fixing it up or forget it?

Dreadnoughts came as a sloop and a ketch. I'm only familiar with the sloop. It's almost identical to the Westsail in appearance and sailing characteristics. If you're looking for a racer, this is not your boat. It's 10 tons so it likes a stiff breeze to get moving. It's not designed as a weekend bay boat like a Hunter or Catalina, although it can certainly meet that roll. It's designed for offshore sailing so it's much more stable in heavy seas. If you're curious about the dreadnoughts sailing characteristics read read up on the Westsail 32, you'll probably find more info on them. My personal experience with the Dreadnought 32 has been great. This opinion may be biased since I grew up sailing on one, but I've sailed lots of boats and I'd take the Dreadnought over all of them. As far as fixing one up, it depends on how much fixing is needed. Being that all dreadnoughts are close to 30+ years old a great deal of maintenance and repairs should be expected.

thud105, thanks for the information on the Dreadnought, it's encouraging to hear. I was surprised by the lack of any type of info, anywhere on the web. I was wondering how similiar it was to theWestsail and if it was a stiff or tender sailboat. The one I'm looking at needs everything but it's a give away price. Now do I want to put that much work in to it?
