I have been using voice over IP for a year it has saved me a small fortune on telephone calls, I use it in the marina that I live in. I have wifi on my boat which gives me Internet access . What I would like to know is what services are the rest of you are using and what other benefits have you found. One of the major benefits which I found recently from my provider Skype was I was able to take a UK telephone number in London and all my friends and business acquaintances are able to ring me at the UK, at local call prices and it actually arrives on my boat via the Internet. Please give me some feedback on the subject. This is something I’ve Trying to get to the bottom of I have been talking to forums around the world on this issue. Paul at NeptuneNet :?:

I know very little about it but I am waiting for it to become available for my Apple computer. I have a Navini Wireless Modem (http://www.navini.com/pages/products/cpe.htm). It is only available in Sydney but another company has a bit more infrastructure in other Australian cities and regions although it uses a different branded modem.
VOIP is available for Windows on Unwired (http://www.unwired.com.au/index.php)(the wireless company) at the moment using Freshtel (http://www.freshtel.net/). The software for Apple macs is coming soon evidently.
Is this wireless system available extensively in other parts of the world? I have had mine now for over 12 months and I think it is great. It rarely drops out, but the the speeds are very ordinary (i get 512 bps) compared to the broadband you are getting in 1st world countries. I am lucky enough to get almost perfect reception (10 bars) from my mooring. With a laptop and an optional battery for the modem, you have almost portable internet.
