Hi,

And thanks ahead for any insight.

Considering Abacos and BVI for first charter. Experienced sailor husband, beginner wife. New to chartering...

Looking at late OCT or early NOV

Probably Moorings, Sunsail, Footloose, etc for first time or two

Want it easy, pretty, and fun...

Ideas? Comparisons?, What about provisioning?..any coments at all welcomed

Thanks Again,

Hi,

I've chartered with the Moorings in the BVI"s seven times and in ABACO twice. For a first time charter you should definitely go to the BVI's. The ABACO's are shallow water sailing, and more challenging. For the most part you won't have to worry about depths in the BVI's. You'll have the option of picking up a mooring almost every night (with the possible exception of Jost Van Dyke). The sailing is line-of-sight. You can use a GPS, but don't really need one. October is good time to go. I used to have the Moorings provide provisionings, but now do all my own provisioning for two reasons: It cost about half and I can get exactly what I want. It's very easy in the BVI's. The Rite Way Market is within walking distance of the Moorings, and I'm sure the other charter companies can advise you of the markets that serve their marinas. If you use Rite Way you can send them your list of food ahead of time and they'll select it and deliver it to you boat. Very good service.

I have a lot of information on cruising the BVI's (snorkel locations, restaurants, itineraries, etc.) More than I want to send in this e-mail, but if you're interested or have other questions send me an e-mail (rhicks2@cox.net), and I'll be glad to share it with you.

I've chartered with the Moorings 25 times in the last 15 years all over the world, and I really think they are the best chartering company. They give you exceptional service, which is what you want when you're away from home in foreign waters for a limted duration vacation.

Cordially,
