Hi,

And thanks ahead for any insight.

Considering Abacos and BVI for first charter. Experienced sailor husband, beginner wife. New to chartering...

Looking at late OCT or early NOV

Probably Moorings, Sunsail, Footloose, etc for first time or two

Want it easy, pretty, and fun...

Ideas? Comparisons?, What about provisioning?..any coments at all welcomed

Thanks Again,

cp

Easy, Pretty, and Fun? First charter? I'd go BVI. I've done both. Bahamas don't have the safty net that the BVI's do. It is so damn easy to sail in the BVI's that it is the hands down choice for your first charter.

:D I agree that the BVI is the best first time destination. It's line of sight sailing, all deepwater, tons of good spots to stop at, all within a couple of hour's sailing. Lots of amenities for kids too. The Bahamas are pretty but much more limited places to visit, shallow water frequently and in November it's getting chilly in the evening.

Agreed with the above. You'll appreciate BVI's weather better than Abaco's in Nov. Additionally, I've spent a lot of time and hassle working around the shallowness of the Sea of Abaco. The depth in BVIs (avg 40 ft?) completely takes this worry about of your sail. Lastly, and possibly most importantly, there are many more moorings available in BVIs. It'll make your trip that much better to be able to relax at night tied up to a mooring vs. being anchored in a 30 kt. gusting nor'easter.
