I am planning on leaving my boat in MX after the HaHa and thought a marina in La Paz would be good but have heard it may not be the best choice because of the risk of Chubascos and hurricanes as opposed to, say, Mazatlan. Some thoughts from you MX vets would be great!

A little more detail: Immediately after the HaHa I would like to stay another week or two and cruise around the Sea of Cortez. Then I would leave the boat in a marina and would like to return in the spring and spend a couple more weeks in the Sea of Cortez. Sometime after that I thought I would return and take the boat further south in MX and eventually do the Puddle Jump. So La Paz seems like it would give me good access to the best areas of the Sea of Cortez. On the other hand, if I were to leave it in Mazatlan then, after the HaHa and after a week or two in the Sea of Cortez I'm looking at another couple of days to get it to Maz and, when I return in the spring, some more lost days traveling back to the Sea and back to Maz. What are you thoughts?!
Thanks,
Mike

you're just beginning the adventure when you get to the cape. la paz is nice but the whole world of cruising is just opening up as further south and across the sea are wonderful and magical and mystical places to go. take the boat over to vallarta. maybe the new marina in la cruz will be partially completed. once over there you can explore further south to navidad and tenacatita, manzanillo and then back up to mazatlan, across the gulf and cruise the sea of cortez. of course if you're limited by time then its la paz for you. just remember, the adventure is just beginning.

You will arrive in La Paz sometime in Oct-Nov after the haha and have the entire Fall, Winter and Spring to visit all the nearby islands such as Espiritu Santo, San Jose and the rest before the late Summer hurricane season comes. Marina la paz is a great place to be, in town and enjoying La Paz as a base with a nearby airport. MLP was rebuilt to withstand much more wave action or you can move to Palmira or another marina less likely to suffer hurricane wind or take off for a southern voyage in the spring when you arrive. MLP is a great place to be as are the neighboring islands especially in Oct and Nov and again in March, APril and May. Winters are breezy and cool and the water temp drops to the 70s though I enjoy this time very much for sailing due to the daily wind.
