View Full Version : If a new threaded style board is created, someone email us

If a new threaded board BB is created, it's my hope (selfish request) that someone will take the time to send out an email to all of us to let us know where it can be found. (Arggh..the subject box on this new message board format is too short...the old one allowed you much more space for a long subject/topic sentence...my whining is just beginning.)

I have to add my regrets to all the others below...I simply do not find the non-threaded format usable enough. It's not anathema and it probably could be worse --but it's just not worth it for me to spend time clicking around for messages/threads when this task was so very, very easily accomplished before by simpling scanning the page in the previous format. Assuming that the suits at Word Pubs care about keeping the same band of posters here (and encourage others to contribute), I just don't see what is so hard about continuing the same format with new software. I just don't get it, but so be it.

I'm balancing this regret about not participating in the new BB against the fact that there are a lot of great folks here, and a lot of interesting nutters (as Logan affectionately called them) that made it a great community. Folks that I hope to meet up with at some point when cruising....who knows: perhaps our paths will cross anyway at some point, or perhaps I'll suck it up and eventually realize that the vibrancy and value of this community outweigh the real unusability/unfriendliness of the format. Maybe the message is more important than the messenger, so to speak.

But for now, alas, I gotta say, regretfully, I'll be cutting the lines here, at least for a while. (And what is this "emoticon" crap that allows you to add 16 differnt types of smiley faces, etc. to your post...extraneous crap that doesn't add any value to the forum. Reminds one of a teenager-oriented BB or something.)

Best,

This is like going to a funeral for half your friends. I hope there is a happy resolution. World Publications now has one more in the family of 36 happy boards using PHPBB or whatever it is called.

My wife is released from jury duty. Looks like we'll be up your way in late July or early August.

I remember a long time ago I was going to ask some folks who regularly spend a lot of time in the Chalottes some tips/good ideas, etc. But it doesn't sound likely you'll make it that far north?

Have you seen the new old new (old?) CSBB. I've lost track of the geneology of the boards by now (!), but it is in the nice comfortable old style...

Cheers,
Jud

... and tell me what you think... I think it's the same software, just run in a somewhat threaded mode (I don't see replies to replies)...

Well, I tried to approach this with an open mind, but I have to admit it just snapped shut. The old board was a pleasure to browse, and could be done quickly for those of us who pop in and out during the day. I just can't warm up to this format. I'm not going to abandon all the good folks and good dialogues, just gonna whine a bit to ease my suffering! sorry Herb, but I'd rather deal with a bit of spamming
