Too bad, so sad to hear about all the folks who do not like this format. I suppose, too, it would be better if we were all still driving around in Model T Fords. All them there newfangled buttons in cars today just don't cut it!

Here's one HUGE advantage using this board...you can put JAX on ignore!

You want threading? This format is a zillion times more organized than a long, convoluted list of posts. Sure, the 'old way' was indented...all the way off the screen for those of you still on 640 x 480 (sounds like about half). This board is much more organized and WAYYY easier to follow IMHO.

I've been using this format for 5 years since it first came out. Kudos to Mark and company for putting it together. No more spam. No more 'mystery' handles. Tons more resources for searching/archiving/e-mail notification, etc. I'm completely amazed at how many people complain about this.

Folks, don't be so fearful of new things! Trust me, once you get the hang of using this format, you will wonder how you ever got along the 'old way'. You will be doing yourselves a disservice by abandoning this board just because it's new and scary. You can go away, but the board won't. For the rest of us who will stick around (I'm guessing it's the silent majority), we will continue to share our ideas, post pictures, and have some laughs.

You know, the Vikings killed captain and crew if they were caught sailing upwind

Is that a feature that is disabled. I don't see how to do that.

Rick,

It's not "fear of the new" generating all these comments, it about user freindliness. There are advantages to both formats.

In the old format, it was very easy to scan the page to se what was of interest, who had responded and determine if one wanted to open or read a particular post post or a response from from a particular person.

The new format provides better organization, but it eliminates the ability to "scan and pick" that the old format provided. (That's my main issue with the new format...)

Also, I personnaly don't like emoticons. IMO, they just look cheesy.

Will I abandon this board? No. I'll continue to drop in and post until a better option is available. However, I expect I'll visit less frequently. I don't have a lot of time to open a whole bunch of posts to find the few responses I'm interesting in reading.

Just my 2 cents... and probably not worth that much! (grin)

Buster: a valid comment.

Here's my veiw of the difference.

(grin)
def: a "word" that allows the reader to visualize my face with a stupid grin on it.

Not the same as an emoticon in my book, but you make a valid comment none the less.

a different identity? And if so, why?

I see a problem already. Apparently you cannot use the subject line to start a message...it gets dropped. Which is just what I intend to do with this board.

But what I tried to ask was: SONADORA, I never say your name on the CWBB. Why is that? If you are using a different identity, what makes you think Jax won't?

I have been on the old CWBB on and off since around 1998 and using my name Rodd C.. Since I had to register and use a password I wanted to use my boat name so if someone sees me out sailing they will recognize my boat name and hail me down for some cocktails.. Just so everyone remembers Acoustic is Rodd C. from the old board ..........

testing, testing 1,2,3.......prepare to tack, or is it a jibe, uncontrolled jibe, kerrrrrrrrsplash. I hate it when we broach.

So I guess I can't reply directly to Acoustic's idea about the boat name, but Rodd, it's a good one. Out on the water, you see a name and you think, "Hey, I know them!"

And if it's the s/v "You-know-who" you can come about a tack away.

Different views about the casual ability to scan the threads and chose what to look at or not.

It really makes this Board pretty ho- hum- compared to the nature of the other board.

Braden,

Yes you can reply directly. Hit the 'Quote' button in Acoustic's post.
