Been looking at potential boats (because it is free to look) because we will be looking to purchase in about 2 - 4 years....but I have no idea what material is better than the other. Some say fiberglass others say wood with fiberglass over it. Others say composition, so while I know this is a basic "newbie" question, some guidance would be welcome.
okay...best is aluminum then steel...but i have a handlaid fiberglass boat that i have shoaled hard over and over and never had a problem with. I love wood but they require alot of work as do steel. What kind of cruising do you plan on doing???
We plan to sail the carribean for the first few years..but would like to be able to cross the Atlantic if we get the urge....my question more specifically was the different kinds of fiberglass or fiberglass over wood, or composition (whatever that is - still not quite sure)...because according to Cap'n Goodlander, I should stick to some sort of fiberglass because any idiot can repair it...whereas steel or alulminum takes a special kind of talent to work with.
