    Default Whitsunday Islands, Queensland

Has anyone experience sailing the Whitsunday Islands in Queensland, Australia?

I played beach volleyball one time at Hamilton Island and then later went to Hayman Island for my honeymoon. On both occasions I saw quite a few sailing ships cruising the waters up that way.

I thought it would be great to spend a week or so up that way cruising the islands and checking out the great barrier reef.

Love to hear any info about boats in that area that can be chartered.

In 1999 four of us, my wife, 2 sons and I, chartered a brand new Beneteau 36 from Cumberland Charters (www.ccy.com.au) and sailed 10 days throughout the Whitsundays. We had a blast! We anchored most nights, but picked up a mooring once and spent one night in a marina at Hamilton Island. The snorkeling and hiking was wonderful, the sailing picturesque. We met and enjoyed time with many other sailors and locals. I'll be happy to answer your questions.

    Bottom line: Sail the Whitsundays!
