The old vertical Ideal windlass on our boat is acting strangely. During it's first usage this season, it got a good workout. It seems to be dragging now, especially in the down mode. I've checked fluid, loosened clutch and removed the gypsy but it still seems to be dragging and turning slowly. In the down mode it seems even worse.
Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks.
Idealwindlass.com they helped me w/my manual via email. Great support.
Tom,
Ideal windlass is a small company in RI where the person who made that windlass originally is likely to still be working there. If you call them I am certain that they will be able to guide you through whatever you need to repair the windlass.
Their web site is

I wish I could help mine is over 20 years old and have not had any problems. I would check and clean all wire connection and then call Ideal, they have great support.

Good idea on checking the connections, a loose connection could cause a slower motor.Originally Posted by cabo79
One thing they're going to ask when you call is how much power are you getting to the windlass. Check the amps too...
