Hello out there. My name is Peter and I'm quite the beginner of such postings, but for those of you who may entertain sailing in or to Australian waters (if you're not already here), you may be interested and hopefully entertained to view a series of 4 minute previews of DVDs that I've put together over the years of my own cruising, promoting sailing around Tasmania and the Bass Strait Islands.
There would be overseas sailors thinking of coming over to Northern Australia waters, but may not have considered sailing too far south due to limited knowledge of the delightful cruising territory Southern Australia and in particular, Tasmania has to offer.
The climate is great for most of the year, you don't have to worry about tropical cyclones or over crowding (such as in Northern Queensland), and the coast line is mostly easy and safe to anchor around, requiring generally short passage times.
Having myself sailed in all States of Australia (other than Western Australia), I rank the scenery down in Bass Strait and Tasmania as definitely some of Australia's best, and there are spots such as Port Davey and Bathhurst harbour on the SW coast, that would surely rival some of the best regarded cruising grounds of the world.
Great fishing, great anchorages, pristine scenery and lots of diversity ashore. You can preview any or all of the DVDs by visting www.yachtcruisingdvds.com. with the facility to purchase if you wish. Each DVD represents a visual guide of where to anchor, what to see ashore and what special treats might be savoured from the briny, such as large succulent crayfish. The DVDs will aslo entertain armchair captains. Enjoy!
