Well, 3 years later and here's the update. I did finish nursing school but had a hell of a time finding a job...but today I sign my letter of intent at a nearby hospital for a full-time nursing position in the med/surg unit. Although my initial plan of 4 years will take a bit longer, the PLAN is still a go. I estimate that I actually have about 2 more years before we will actively be looking to buy a boat. And now since I will be able to get some training to be a nurse, I will have the option to move to a sea port and re-fit the boat once we buy one and do nursing to supplement the upgrades. We're definately getting excited about the prospects that nursing will afford us....now just wish me luck that I can actually survive the first year of it.
I will check back in the future to let you know the progress.
PS we did spend a week on a catamaran for vacation this past summer. If you want to see the video I made of the trip, then go to www.youtube.com and search for "Sailing the Bahamas"....my user name on there is also "kevtamus" great video and can't wait to do it for ourselves next time.
Or maybe this link will work:

Wow! Thanks for the update! Glad that cruising is still the "plan!"
Update: Survived my first 6 months of nursing and all is going good. I quit my aviation job that I've had for over 24 yrs. and am finally starting to feel like I'm finding my "groove" in Med/Surg. After reading my first post back in 2008 on this thread, a lot has happened. First, we did sell our original house, but ended up building one that cost us just as much as the one we sold - so, we're about to put it up for sale to have some more boat-buying money. Also, we've accumulated 2 more rent properties to supplement time spent sailing. In addition, both of our boys (24 and 1 are saying they will be joining us on the boat. So, as we begin to gather up all our resources and begin to actively "look" for a boat, we've decided to try and find a decent catamaran, and are just crossing our fingers hoping that the right one comes available at the right price when were ready. I have at least 6 more months of nursing at my current location before I'll have my prized 1 yr. experience, then the hunt is on.
