Hey Cruisingworld, hoping you guys and gals can help me out.
Lucky me won a Lowrance GPS Fishfinder and as my Raymarine gps is acting up and I'm an avid fisherman and sailor I'd love to put it on my 2001 Beneteau 331. The problem I'm encountering is mostly with the transducer. Drilling a hole in my hull isn't optimal and is costly. Lowrance has the thru hull option for the sonar but after talking to Beneteau my hull at the desired spot is 3/4 in thick and the transducer only shoots through 1/2 inch. I wondered if sanding that area down a 1/2 inch would be feasible, but weakening the hull seems a substantial risk - unless there was a way to reinforce that area once the transducer and epoxy were laid. I'm not sure hanging it off the transom is an option, but maybe.
