I have 1984 34' Oday shoal draft sloop rig. Water got in from rudder post. About 2 1/2" froze a cracked off the bottom of the rudder. Completely and neatly across the width ( I could not have sawed off that straight).
Here is my questions.
1. What is the effect of a shorten rudder? The idea here is to lower the rudder make repairs around the top. Then simply fiberglass the bottom of the rudder.
2. How would the foam core stand up to a fiberglass bandage? The idea here would be to take strips of glass fabric around the broken piece up the rudder about 12 to 16". Then wrap a gusset layer of cloth around crack seam.
Yes I am trying to avoid a total rebuild of the rudder.
